Since leaving her native Scotland in 1994, Jackie has certainly paid her dues. Her singing and song writing talents have been honed abroad in a staggering 42 countries around the world. Despite all her travelling, she has always tried to stay true to her roots, but admits that Country Music has always played a big part in her life.
“My love of Country Music began from a very early age when my mum and I used to sit every Thursday night at 8pm and listen to our local Radio Station bringing us all the latest tunes from Nashville. It was the only night of the week when I got to stay up late!!” says Jackie.
Growing up she always knew she wanted to be a singer but singing was to come a little later that she had originally planned.
As an aspiring teenager, she gave a radio interview about her thoughts on Country Music. Unknown to her, the Programme Director was listening in and thought she had a great speaking voice. He offered her a job! For the next 12 years she hosted her own radio shows throughout the UK and Europe.
In 1998 she finally hung up her headphones and made her way to London where she signed up with and Entertainment Agency.
“I was offered my first full time singing gig. A 6-month cruise around the Caribbean. Tough job! But someone had to do it!!” laughs Jackie. “I worked every evening but had plenty of free time during the day. I would sit on the beautiful beaches looking out to sea, chewing on a pen and coming up with song ideas. By the time I came home in 2005 I had sung in over 42 countries and had chewed my way through as many pens. But I had a song for almost every new experience!”
Her latest album “Cross The Border” features some of these songs as well as some classic covers that Jackie feels have been waiting to be rediscovered. Her reworking of Motorhead’s “Ace Of Spades” went straight to No1 in the British Country Hot Disc Chart in September 2007.
More recently Jackie’s music was brought to the attention of American Radio Host Bruce Hodges of Blueridge Country 98fm who broke the news to Jackie live on air that she is officially his most requested Featured Artist.
Jackie is signed to Parrothouse Records (UK) and her CD “Cross The Border” is available from HMV, Borders and Amazon.co.uk.
Later this year Jackie will be going on tour with her band so look out for her coming to a venue near you.
